Legal teams are not typically early adopters of technology. In fact, it seems in many cases they have just recently started taking an active look at the various ways technology might make their jobs, and their lives, easier. As Mary Juetten notes in her Law Technology Today blog Tech Savvy In-House Part I:
“Attorneys are trained to be risk adverse; therefore, it is in-congruent for in-house lawyers to be early adopters of major technology or seek out change.”
While many corporations have taken a “rip the Band-Aid off” approach to technology implementations, this may be particularly uncomfortable for legal professionals.
Thankfully, there are quite a number of quick and easy to implement technology products that provide a way to dip your toe in the technology pool and don’t require a major organizational initiative.
Take a look at Sterling Miller’s latest Ten Things: “Cool Tech” for In-House Lawyers (2017) blog post for some great, and EASY, ideas on where you can start. And, once you and your team become more comfortable with the positive role technology can play in your office, you can look around and see what other offerings are out there that make sense for you.
